Kids’ manicure: from what age and how it goes

We do it from age 3 — with files, without cutting tools, in a private room. What parents should know.

From what age

At Hide salon kids’ manicures are done from age 3. Their main purpose is hygiene: a neat length, an even edge without hangnails and well-cared-for skin around the nail. This kind of manicure helps a child stop biting their nails and hangnails, and for girls it often becomes a pleasant “grown-up” ritual.

How it differs from an adult manicure

– files only, no scissors, nippers or bits: children’s cuticles are not cut;
– gentle movements and a short procedure — about 45 minutes;
– coating if you wish — a safe children’s polish;
– a separate quiet room with no noise or strangers nearby.

How to prepare a child for the first visit

– explain in advance what will happen: the master will file the nails and, if your child wants, paint them;
– pick a time when your child is rested and not hungry;
– bring a favourite toy or a cartoon;
– you can stay with your child for the whole procedure — the room is private.

FAQ

Can a parent stay during the procedure?

Yes. The room is private, and you can stay with your child the whole time.

How often should a child have a manicure?

Usually every 3–4 weeks or as the nails grow. Between visits it’s enough to gently file the edge at home.

Do you do pedicures for children?

Yes, ask when booking: we’ll advise whether your child needs one and how best to do it for their age.
