Usually 3–4 weeks on the hands. What it depends on, why the coating lifts early and how to keep your manicure longer.
People choose gel polish for its durability: it doesn’t chip after a couple of days like regular polish and keeps its shine to the end. But “how long it lasts” isn’t only about the product. It depends on how the nail is prepared, how you use your hands, and when and how the coating is removed.
On the hands gel polish is usually worn for 3–4 weeks, on the feet longer, up to 5–6 weeks, because toenails grow more slowly. It’s not worth keeping a coating on your hands for more than a month even if it holds: the nail grows out, the load shifts to the tip, and it can break together with the coating.
– Nail preparation. If cuticle or oil is left on the nail plate, the coating will start lifting at the base. Careful cuticle work is half the job; in the file technique it’s removed without nicks, and the gel polish sits close to the skin.
– Nail condition. On thin, peeling and very flexible nails the coating holds less well — gel strengthening sometimes helps.
– Daily load. Water, cleaning products without gloves, keyboards, manual work — all of this shortens the wear time.
– Products and lamp. An under-cured layer lifts, so both the quality of the gel polish and correct curing matter.

– lifting at the cuticle — most often insufficient nail preparation;
– chips at the tips — the free edge wasn’t sealed or the tip takes too much load;
– bubbles and cracks — too thick a layer or a curing mistake.
If gel polish lifts in the first few days, it’s not “just your nails” but a reason to go back to the master. At Hide our work comes with a guarantee and a free fix.
– for the first 24 hours skip the bathhouse, sauna and very hot water;
– wear gloves for cleaning and washing up;
– don’t use your nails as tools: don’t open cans or pick at stickers with them;
– apply cuticle oil every day — the skin doesn’t dry out and the coating looks neater;
– don’t peel off a lifting edge: the top layer of the nail comes off together with the gel polish.
Gel polish should be removed by a master: it’s carefully filed off or softened, not peeled. Gentle removal at the salon costs 70 000 UZS. If you want to give your nails a break from coating, try a Japanese manicure — care without colour that leaves nails looking groomed and shiny.
Itching, redness and peeling around the nail after coating are a reason to tell the master. Most often the reaction is caused by HEMA; the salon has hypoallergenic HEMA-free gel polishes and an allergy test before the procedure. More in the article gel polish allergy.

Longer than on the hands — usually 5–6 weeks: toenails grow more slowly and take less load.
Not in itself, as long as the coating is removed properly and not worn for more than a month. What damages nails isn’t gel polish but rough removal and over-filing. If you want a break, try a Japanese manicure.
Better not: when you peel the coating off you also remove the top layer of the nail, which then thins and breaks. Gentle removal at the salon is 70 000 UZS.
